Luciana Ribas
Owner of Portuguese Today | Brazilian Portuguese Teacher
Luciana Ribas, a native Brazilian, studied communication at the Federal University of Paraná and specialized in teaching Portuguese as a second language.
She has taught group and private classes for almost 20 years, having taught online since 2008. She developed her own method of teaching languages using the Direct Method: focusing on the connection of vocabulary with images instead of word translation and rule memorization. This methodology was created with the objective of breaking away from the archaic method of relying on grammatical explanation and constant translation. It is the method by which living languages should be taught.
With this extensive background in teaching and learning, she founded Portuguese Today in 2013.
Video Lessons
Portuguese Today teaches with what we call the ‘direct method’ - that is, you will learn to speak without translation. We’ve found that the best way of doing that is with videos. We have created hundreds of entertaining videos that teach you how to speak easily and quickly.
Homework
To help you retain the content you have learned, we have also developed hundreds of exercises that, like the videos, do not use translation, but rather photos, audio and video.
